Strand Storytelling began with a shared wonder at the power of true-life storytelling. Longtime collaborators Jeff Gandell & Nisha Coleman wanted to distill the essence of what makes a good story and share that knowledge with as many people as possible. We are constantly humbled and delighted by how much we learn alongside participants about the ineffable process of transmitting emotions through the careful curation of our memories.

Jeff Gandell is a teacher, writer, storyteller, playwright, and musician from Montreal, Canada. Jeff was the creator of Yarn, a storytelling show that ran monthly in Montreal for six years. He has performed at dozens of storytelling events across Canada and has written, performed, or directed five full-length storytelling shows. He performs frequently as a singer-songwriter and has released two solo albums of original music. He has taught English Literature, writing, and storytelling at Dawson College for over fifteen years. Nisha Coleman (Montreal)

Nisha Coleman is a writer, storyteller, and actor. She has performed her solo storytelling shows across Canada, the U.S., and Europe. Her stories have been broadcast on CBC, The Moth, Risk!, and other platforms. Her children’s book Dear Humans explores animals’ changing habitats, human fallibility, Indigenous wisdom, creative problem solving—and above all, hope for our future. Her performance in the lead role of Zoé was deemed “outstanding” by the jury of the Landshut Film Festival in Germany and was awarded “best lead acting performance in a short” film at Toronto’s Blood in the Snow festival. She is a storytelling mentor and public speaker, often addressing themes of creativity and authenticity. Nisha is passionate about animal and human rights, environmentalism, and veganism.
